    Kolkata, February 25, 2025: A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Bay of Bengal at 6:10 am today, with tremors felt in Kolkata and nearby areas. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that the quake’s epicenter was at latitude 19.52 N and longitude 88.55 E, at a depth of 91 km. While residents experienced brief shaking, there have been no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

    Kolkata, which falls under seismic zone 4, is vulnerable to strong earthquakes. The sudden tremors caused momentary panic among residents, prompting many to share their experiences on social media. However, daily activities in the city have continued as usual, and authorities have confirmed that there is no tsunami threat.
