Chittoor, February 25, 2025: M-Tomato Farmers Producer Company Limited, Madanapalle, has applied for a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Madanapalle tomatoes, with legal support from MITS Intellectual Property Facilities Centre. The GI tag will help protect the tomatoes’ authenticity, increase market value, and benefit over 20,000 farmers cultivating tomatoes across 100,000 hectares.
Madanapalle tomatoes, known for their unique taste and texture, are produced daily and exported to several states, including Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Telangana. Farmers, despite small landholdings, use advanced techniques to maintain quality. MITS Principal C Yuvaraj emphasized the importance of the GI tag in preserving the region’s agricultural heritage.
