Industrialists Mourn Ratan Tata’s Death:Ratan Tata, the chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, breathed his last at 86 in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital at 11.30 pm on Wednesday. A Padma Vibhushan recipient, Tata, had been in intensive care at the hospital since Monday. Mourning the loss of the Indian icon and philanthropist, top business leaders from around the world including Bill Gates, Anand Mahindra, Mukesh Ambani , Gautam Adani, Sundar Pichai and many others have expressed their condolences, highlighting the Titan’s influence on the corporate world.
Ratan Tata was one of India’s most respected industrialists, elevating the Tata Group and contributing greatly to the nation through his philanthropic efforts. The Tata Group expressed deep sorrow at his passing and noted that his legacy would inspire future generations.

Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Ratan Tata, describing it as a “sad day for India” and said that the passing of Ratan Tata filled him with “immense grief.” In a heartfelt post on X, Ambani wrote,”It is a very sad day for India and India Inc. Ratan Tata’s passing away is a big loss, not just to the Tata Group, but to every Indian. At a personal level, the passing of Ratan Tata has filled me with immense grief as I lost a dear friend.”
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates remembered Ratan Tata, saying, “Ratan Tata was a visionary leader whose dedication to improving lives left an indelible mark on India—and the world. I had the privilege of meeting him on several occasions, and I was always moved by his strong sense of purpose and service to humanity. Together, we partnered on numerous initiatives to help people lead healthier, more prosperous lives. His loss will be felt around the world for years to come, but I know the legacy he left and example he set will continue to inspire generations.”
Google and Alphabet CEO Sunder Pichai recalled his last meeting with ratan Tata and wrote, “My last meeting with Ratan Tata at Google, we talked about the progress of Waymo and his vision was inspiring to hear. He leaves an extraordinary business and philanthropic legacy and was instrumental in mentoring and developing modern business leadership in India. He deeply cared about making India better. Adani Group Founder and Chairman Gautam Adani offered condolences on the demise of industrialist Ratan Tata and said that India has lost “a giant, a visionary.” In his tributes to the veteran industralist, Gautam Adani, in a post on X, said , “India has lost a giant, a visionary who redefined modern India’s path. Ratan Tata wasn’t just a business leader – he embodied the spirit of India with integrity, compassion and an unwavering commitment to the greater good. Legends like him never fade away. Om Shanti.”
Anand Mahindra, the Chairman of Mahindra Group, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Ratan Tata, former chairman of the Tata Group. In a post shared on X , Mahindra expressed his deep sorrow and inability to accept Tata’s passing. He wrote, “I am unable to accept the absence of Ratan Tata. India’s economy stands on the cusp of a historic leap forward. And Ratan’s life and work have had much to do with our being in this position. Hence, his mentorship and guidance at this point in time would have been invaluable. With him gone, all we can do is to commit to emulating his example. Because he was a businessman for whom financial wealth and success was most useful when it was put to the service of the global community.”
Born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, Tata was the chairman of Ratan Tata Trust and Dorabji Tata Trust, two of India’s largest private philanthropic trusts. He served as chairman of Tata Sons from 1991 until his retirement in 2012 and then became chairman emeritus. In 2008, he received the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second-highest civilian award.
