New Delhi, March 25, 2025 – The Lok Sabha has approved an extension for the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on ‘One Nation, One Election’ until the last week of the Monsoon Session, 2025. The motion, moved by JPC Chairman PP Chaudhary, grants more time for the committee to present its report on key legislative proposals, including the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024.
The JPC is reviewing the feasibility of simultaneous elections across India and plans to consult legal experts, including former Supreme Court judges and the Attorney General, to address the bills’ legal and constitutional aspects.
