New Delhi, December 11, 2024: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly criticized the Congress party for moving a no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Rijiju, in a statement to reporters, accused the opposition of undermining the authority of both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha Speakers. He asserted that the NDA remains confident in Dhankhar’s leadership, emphasizing the importance of following parliamentary traditions and respecting the Chair’s guidance during proceedings.
Rijiju’s comments came as opposition parties, including Congress, lodged the no-confidence motion, alleging bias on Dhankhar’s part. The motion reflects the growing tensions between the opposition and the government regarding the management of parliamentary affairs. Rijiju pointed out that the opposition’s actions were a disrespect to the institution, urging an apology from Congress, especially in light of the alleged links to controversial figures like activist George Soros, who some claim have anti-India motives.
This political dispute has sparked widespread debate about parliamentary norms and the role of the Chair in maintaining order during sessions. Rijiju’s remarks emphasized the importance of following established procedures and the government’s stance on protecting the dignity of the Rajya Sabha.
