Kanguva’s Box Office Journey: A Mixed Start
The much-anticipated Tamil fantasy action drama Kanguva, starring Suriya and Bobby Deol, opened to positive reviews but witnessed a sharp decline in box office performance on its second day. Directed by Siva, the film earned ₹24 crore in India on its opening day, with the Tamil version leading at ₹14.9 crore, followed by Telugu (₹5.5 crore) and Hindi (₹3.5 crore). However, the second day saw collections drop by 50%, with early estimates reporting earnings of just ₹9 crore. The two-day domestic total now stands at ₹33 crore, according to Sacnilk, while the worldwide opening day collection crossed ₹50 crore.
Criticism Dampens the Buzz
Despite praise for Suriya and Bobby Deol’s performances, Kanguva faced backlash from viewers due to its excessively loud background score, which some reported caused headaches. Additionally, critiques of Siva’s writing and direction further contributed to the mixed reception. The ambitious project, reportedly made on a budget of ₹300 crore, was expected to perform strongly but has struggled to maintain its momentum.
Producer Promises Sound Adjustments
Acknowledging audience feedback, producer KE Gnanavel Raja announced measures to address concerns about the loud audio. Speaking at a press conference in Hyderabad, he said, “We have spoken to everyone and asked them to reduce the volume by 2 points. The film is set a thousand years back, and most episodes have massive action sequences. Considering the feedback, we’ve directed exhibitors to adjust the sound levels.”
Star-Studded Cast and Future Prospects
Apart from Suriya and Bobby Deol, the film features Disha Patani and Yogi Babu in key roles, with Karthi making a cameo, marking his first appearance alongside his brother Suriya. While Kanguva has had a challenging start, the adjustments and strong performances could help improve its box office prospects in the coming days.
