Kanguva Advance Bookings Slow Ahead of Release, Struggles to Compete with Amaran’s Success

Kanguva Advance Bookings: Slow Start for Suriya’s Pan-India Film Ahead of Release

Suriya’s much-awaited pan-India film Kanguva is set to hit the big screens on November 14, but its advance bookings have gotten off to a slow start. The film’s promotions began a month ago, with the team traveling across various parts of India to spread the word. Despite the early promotional efforts, the film is not making the expected noise at the box office due to limited advance bookings. However, many predict that once full-fledged bookings open up, the advance sales will see a significant boost.

As per Cinetrak, advance sales in Tamil Nadu for Kanguva have crossed ₹1 crore from 61 tracked cinemas, with an occupancy of over 33% in theatres that have started admissions. So far, the movie has sold over 55,000 tickets, but reports suggest that it will be difficult for Kanguva to reach a ₹10 crore opening day collection in Tamil Nadu, with the film expected to fall behind Amaran, which is currently dominating the market.

Amaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, has been performing exceptionally well since its release during Diwali. The biographical drama on the lives of Major Mukund Varadarajan and Indhu Rebecca Varghese has grossed ₹159.1 crore in India and ₹255.25 crore globally. Due to Amaran’s continued success, exhibitors have not allocated enough screens to Kanguva. Less than 50% of the screens have been secured by Kanguva, which is expected to impact its box office performance.

Earlier, the release of Kanguva was delayed due to Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan, which released during Dussehra. Many believe that Kanguva did not receive the industry support it needed, which could affect its collections. Directed by Siva, the film will release worldwide on November 14.
