Jammu: Four Army personnel and a policeman sustained injuries in an encounter with terrorists in Adigam village in Kulgam district in Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday morning. It is believed that two-three terrorists are likely trapped in the area.
The ongoing anti-terror operation was being carried out by Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army and the CRPF. The injured ASP has been identified as Mumtaz Ali Bhatti who sustained injuries to right arm and left leg.
While the four jawans include Sepoy Mohan Sharma, 09 RR (Injury to right leg); Sepoy Sohan Kumar, 09 RR (Injury to left thigh) Sepoy Yoginder, 09 RR (Injury to right thigh); Mohammad Isran, 09 RR (Injury to right shoulder).
The security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area after receiving specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists. As the forces closed in on the suspected location, the terrorists opened fire, leading to a gunfight.
Police and security forces are on the spot where the exchange of fire was reported on Saturday morning. In a post on X, Jammu and Kashmir Police informed about the gunfight in Kulgam.
Kashmir Zone police tweeted, “Encounter has started at Adigam Devsar area of Kulgam. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.” Meanwhile, additional reinforcements have been called in to ensure terrorists don’t flee.
