JEE (Advanced) Attempt Limit Set to Two: Supreme Court Refuses to Reverse Decision

New Delhi, January 10, 2025: The Supreme Court has declined to intervene in the decision of the Joint Admission Board (JAB) to reduce the number of attempts for the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) from three to two. This decision came in response to a writ petition filed by aspirants challenging the November 2024 decision. The petitioners had raised concerns that they had made educational choices based on the earlier announcement of three attempts, and the sudden change left them at a disadvantage.

In its ruling, the court agreed to examine a plea against the reduced number of attempts and granted relief to petitioners who had dropped out of their engineering courses between November 5 and 18, 2024. These petitioners were allowed to participate in the upcoming exam. The controversy arose when JAB initially announced three attempts on November 5, 2024, only to reverse the decision and reduce the attempts to two by November 18, 2024.
