Kanker: An intense gunbattle is currently ongoing between security forces and Naxals in the dense forests of Abujhmadh, located at the Kanker-Narayanpur border in Chhattisgarh. The exchange of fire began on Saturday morning after a search operation was launched by security forces late Friday night.
According to the Chhattisgarh Police, the operation is part of a larger counter-Naxal effort, with reports suggesting a heavy firefight as forces attempt to neutralize the Naxal presence in the area. The situation remains fluid, and further updates are awaited from the authorities.
This encounter follows a significant operation in Bijapur district earlier in November, where three Naxals, including a platoon commander with a bounty of Rs 8 lakh, were killed in a previous gunfight. The security forces recovered a large cache of weapons from the area. The encounter in Bijapur took place on November 8, involving forces from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), CRPF, and the elite CoBRA unit, against the Naxals in the forested hills of Rekhapalli-Komathpalli.
The ongoing operation in the Kanker-Narayanpur border region is part of the continued efforts by the Chhattisgarh Police and security forces to combat Naxal insurgents in the state, particularly in remote and difficult-to-reach areas.
