India Set to Become Global Tech Hub with MeitY’s AI, Semiconductor, and Skill Initiatives

New Delhi ,December 27, 2024: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has unveiled India’s strategic initiatives in artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductor manufacturing, and skill development, positioning the country to become a global technology hub. These initiatives aim to strengthen technological capabilities, promote innovation, and create a robust ecosystem for emerging technologies. One of the key developments is the India Semiconductor Mission, which has approved four semiconductor manufacturing projects, including Tata Electronics Private Limited’s (TEPL) collaboration with Taiwan’s PSMC. This facility is expected to produce 50,000 wafer starts per month, significantly advancing India’s semiconductor manufacturing capacity.

In the field of AI, MeitY has launched the IndiaAI program, an ambitious initiative designed to leverage transformative technologies for social impact. The program focuses on key areas such as data management, AI ethics and governance, and the creation of a National Centre for AI. These efforts aim to drive innovation and encourage the widespread adoption of AI across various sectors. Additionally, MeitY is rolling out the National Program on Artificial Intelligence, which has four primary pillars: AI skill development, responsible AI practices, data management, and the establishment of the National Centre on AI.

These forward-looking initiatives reflect India’s commitment to advancing its technological landscape. By fostering innovation, creating a skilled workforce, and promoting ethical AI practices, India is positioning itself as a leader in the global technology arena.
