New Delhi, April 9, 2025: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced that India aims to finalize a bilateral trade agreement (BTA) with the United States by fall 2025, following President Donald Trump’s imposition of reciprocal tariffs on several countries, including India. Speaking at the News18 Rising Bharat Summit, Jaishankar said India is engaging the U.S. constructively and is possibly the only nation to have reached an understanding on trade with Washington since Trump began his second term.
He noted that while previous efforts during Trump’s first term and under the Biden administration did not yield a deal, the current situation presents a renewed opportunity. Jaishankar emphasized that India has long sought a bilateral trade pact with the U.S., and the recent developments could pave the way for meaningful progress.
