    India Becomes Headquarters for Global Big Cat Alliance, Pledges $100 Million for Conservation

    New Delhi, April 17, 2025 – India has signed a Headquarters Agreement with the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), officially making it the host country for the alliance’s Secretariat. The IBCA, launched in April 2023 during Project Tiger’s 50th anniversary, focuses on protecting seven big cat species including the tiger, lion, leopard, snow leopard, jaguar, puma, and cheetah.

    As part of the agreement, India will provide $100 million over five years to support conservation efforts, tackle wildlife trafficking, and build global cooperation. The IBCA will promote collaboration among member countries through shared resources and unified conservation practices, reinforcing India’s leadership in wildlife protection.
