New Delhi, January 4, 2025: India and Iran have conducted a comprehensive review of their bilateral relations, focusing on the joint development of the Chabahar port, boosting trade and economic ties, and potential cooperation in agriculture and other sectors. The 19th India-Iran Foreign Office Consultations were held in Delhi, where both sides discussed various avenues for enhancing their partnership. The Iranian delegation, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi, and the Indian team, headed by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, engaged in detailed talks to strengthen cooperation across multiple domains.
One of the key points raised by Iran during the consultations was a request for India to explore avenues for resuming the procurement of Iranian crude oil, which was halted in mid-2019 due to sanctions imposed by the United States. In addition to discussing the progress of the Chabahar port project, both sides also deliberated on regional developments and ways to further bilateral collaboration. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed confidence that the talks would provide momentum to the partnership, aiming to enhance connectivity and trade between the two nations.
