New Delhi, March 25, 2025 – The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has successfully demonstrated the use of drones for medical logistics under its i-DRONE initiative, facilitating faster and more efficient transportation of corneas for transplants. In a recent pilot study, drones were deployed to deliver corneal tissues across various healthcare facilities, significantly reducing transportation time and improving transplant success rates.
This initiative aims to enhance accessibility to critical medical supplies, particularly in remote areas where conventional transport faces delays. By leveraging drone technology, ICMR seeks to establish a scalable model for organ and tissue transportation, ensuring timely medical interventions and boosting healthcare efficiency across the country.
