ICEA Pushes for Lower Import Duties to Enhance India’s Electronics Sector

New Delhi, January 2025 – The India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) has urged the government to consider reducing import duties on parts and components to boost electronics manufacturing in the country. According to ICEA, the current high duties on these critical components are hindering the growth of the domestic electronics manufacturing sector. By lowering the duties, it is believed that the government can incentivize local production and reduce dependency on imports, thus fostering innovation and investment in the industry.

The demand comes at a time when the government is focusing on promoting manufacturing under the “Make in India” initiative, and the electronics sector is seen as a key driver for achieving self-reliance in the country. The ICEA’s proposal aims to make India more competitive globally and enhance the ease of doing business within the electronics industry. The reduction in duties would not only encourage local manufacturing but also attract foreign investments, further boosting the sector’s potential.
