RGV Case Trial in High Court: Bail Petition Directed by Court
The High Court has clarified that filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma must file a bail petition to seek protection from arrest. The court dismissed the request made by Varma’s lawyer seeking protection from arrest. The petition filed by the filmmaker to quash the case registered against him by the police in Maddipadu, Prakasam district, was heard in the High Court. During the hearing, the court made key observations.
The petitioner’s lawyer argued that there was a possibility of arrest and sought protection. However, the court stated that if there was concern about arrest, Varma should file a bail petition. The lawyer also requested that the police give Varma more time to appear in court, as the police had issued a notice for him to appear on Tuesday. The court clarified that any request for an extension of time should be made to the police and not in front of the court.
During the promotion of his film “Strategy” ahead of the general elections, Ram Gopal Varma posted derogatory remarks about opposition leaders Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena president Pawan Kalyan on X (formerly Twitter), which became controversial. Following this, Muttanapalli Ramalingam, the Mandal General Secretary of TDP from Maddipadu, filed a complaint with the police, leading to the registration of a case against Varma.
