Visakhapatnam, February 11, 2025: Major irregularities in the collection of NALA (Non-Agricultural Land Assessment) tax have surfaced in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC). Urban planning officials allegedly approved building plans and issued Occupancy Certificates (OCs) for properties without collecting required taxes, causing an estimated ₹120 crore revenue loss. Properties in Gajuwaka, Pendurthi, and other mandals were constructed without paying dues, prompting a vigilance investigation.
One notable case involves the MVV & MK Housing project in Kurmannapalem, where a ₹5 crore tax remains unpaid despite receiving OCs. Similar allegations have been raised against major projects like Sriram Properties and NCC. TDP corporators and whistleblowers highlighted these violations, and the NDA government is now focusing on recovering lost revenue and ensuring accountability.
