PM Modi at BRICS Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kazan, Russia, on Tuesday to participate in the 16th BRICS Summit. He received a grand welcome upon his arrival. After that, as he reached his hotel, he was warmly greeted by the Indian diaspora. He took some time to converse with them. During the two-day summit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to discuss several key issues with the leaders of the BRICS coalition.

Meanwhile, it is reported that a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will also take place during this gathering. In another development, China confirmed a key patrol agreement on Tuesday, marking an end to the tensions that have persisted along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) for the past four years. Chinese Foreign Minister Lin Jian mentioned that China will work with India to implement the resolutions agreed upon by both parties.

    Extensive Discussions on Various Issues
Before heading to Russia, Prime Minister Modi expressed that India values close cooperation within BRICS as an important platform for discussing international development agendas. He stated that he looks forward to extensive discussions on various topics during the two-day BRICS summit. The Prime Minister highlighted that the expansion of BRICS with the inclusion of new members last year has contributed to the coalition’s integrity and its agenda for global welfare. Discussions at BRICS will encompass issues such as global development agendas, climate change, economic cooperation, building supply chains, and promoting cultural connectivity.

This year’s BRICS summit will be held under the main theme of “Strengthening Multilateralism for Global Development and Security.” All member country leaders are participating in the summit. However, Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will be attending virtually due to an injury sustained from a fall in the bathroom. BRICS is comprised of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, and has recently expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE as new members. This is the first summit following the expansion of the coalition. This marks the second time Prime Minister Modi is visiting Russia this year.
