New York, December 20, 2024: Google has announced a 10% reduction in its management positions, including roles of managers, directors, and vice presidents, as part of an ongoing efficiency drive. This restructuring, which has been underway for over two years, aims to streamline operations and accelerate decision-making within the company.
The decision to reduce management roles comes amid increasing competition in the artificial intelligence sector, particularly from companies like OpenAI. In response, Google has been integrating generative AI features into its services and launching new AI products, such as a video generator and the Gemini models, to maintain its competitive edge.
CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized the need to update the concept of “Googleyness” to align with the company’s evolving goals and culture. He highlighted the importance of mission-driven work, innovation, and teamwork in shaping the future of Google.
