KOLKATA: The father of the deceased woman medic from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital stated that he has spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has invited him for a meeting.
He refrained from disclosing details about his conversation with Shah or the specific time and location of the meeting. “I have spoken to him (Amit Shah). He has called me (for a meeting). I cannot talk much about it, but the meeting will take place,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
The victim’s parents had previously written to Shah on October 22, seeking an appointment to discuss their quest for justice. State BJP leaders had attempted to arrange a meeting between Shah and the family during his visit to Kolkata on October 27, but the meeting did not occur. The parents later expressed that they were not disheartened about the missed opportunity and remained hopeful they would meet with the Home Minister in the future.
The body of the woman medic, who was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty, was discovered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital on August 9. The incident sparked protests across West Bengal, with junior doctors going on a 42-day strike demanding justice, which ended on September 21 after assurances from the state government. The Kolkata Police initially investigated the crime and arrested one civic volunteer before the case was handed over to the CBI following an order from the Calcutta High Court.
