New Delhi, December 12 – Delhi’s air quality has once again slipped into the ‘poor’ category, raising concerns over the city’s persistent pollution levels. The AQI (Air Quality Index) recorded at various monitoring stations indicated a significant rise in pollutant levels due to changing weather conditions and localized factors. Despite this deterioration, authorities have decided to relax certain restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), citing a slight improvement in atmospheric conditions over the past week.
Officials announced that industries and construction activities previously restricted under GRAP Stage II can now resume operations. However, they have urged residents to limit outdoor activities, especially during early mornings and late evenings when pollution levels tend to peak. Experts have warned that without consistent and effective measures to combat air pollution, the situation could worsen further as winter progresses.
Environmental activists and public health experts have expressed their concerns, calling for stricter enforcement of anti-pollution measures and the implementation of long-term solutions to address Delhi’s recurring air quality crisis. They emphasized the need for sustainable strategies, such as reducing vehicular emissions and increasing green cover, to ensure a healthier living environment for the city’s residents.
