New Delhi, December 19, 2024: The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi Government (GNCTD) to expedite the process of filling vacant positions in the Delhi Mental Health Authority (DMHA). The directive comes as part of the court’s efforts to ensure better mental health services in the capital and address the growing concerns regarding mental health care in the city.
The court emphasized the need for a fully operational authority to oversee mental health policies, initiatives, and the implementation of the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017. The DMHA is tasked with ensuring the effective delivery of mental health services, safeguarding the rights of individuals with mental health conditions, and promoting mental well-being across Delhi.
The ruling underlines the urgency of having a robust mental health system in place, especially as mental health challenges are on the rise in urban areas. The Delhi Government has been given a deadline to complete the recruitment process, ensuring that all necessary positions are filled to strengthen the functioning of the authority.
