New Delhi, December 10, 2024 – The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced a significant change for students appearing for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for Undergraduate (UG) admissions. According to the latest guidelines, students will now be allowed to appear for any subject in the CUET-UG, regardless of the subjects they studied in Class 12. This decision aims to provide greater flexibility for students and encourage a wider range of academic choices for their higher education.
Previously, CUET-UG candidates were expected to appear for subjects that were aligned with their Class 12 subjects. However, the new directive will give students the opportunity to choose subjects based on their interest, irrespective of their previous academic background. This change is expected to benefit students who wish to explore interdisciplinary fields or switch to subjects they are passionate about, even if they did not study them in school.
The UGC’s move is seen as a step towards making higher education more inclusive and accessible, catering to the diverse interests and talents of students. It also aligns with the broader vision of the National Education Policy (NEP), which advocates for a flexible and multidisciplinary approach to education. The policy is expected to have a positive impact on the admission process, providing students with more freedom in their academic and career paths.
