Chennai, February 27, 2025 – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has opposed the imposition of Hindi, stating that it threatens India’s linguistic diversity and ancient mother tongues. He clarified that while the DMK does not oppose Hindi itself, it strongly resists its forced imposition on non-Hindi-speaking states, particularly Tamil Nadu, as it undermines self-respect and cultural identity.
Stalin also criticized the three-language policy under the National Education Policy (NEP), calling it an attempt to prioritize Hindi and Sanskrit over regional languages. He warned that such policies could harm linguistic diversity and weaken national unity. Reaffirming Tamil Nadu’s commitment to its two-language policy of Tamil and English, he urged collective efforts to protect native languages for future generations.
