Taipei, November 27, 2024 – China has significantly increased its military activity near Taiwan, with Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense reporting 17 Chinese military aircraft and seven naval vessels detected within a 24-hour period. Of these, 10 aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait median line, heightening regional tensions.
In response, Taiwan has deployed its own military forces, including aircraft, naval ships, and coastal missile systems, to track the Chinese movements. This escalation is seen as part of China’s strategy of using “gray zone tactics” to apply pressure without initiating direct conflict.
The rise in Chinese military activity has been a concern since September 2020, with repeated incursions into Taiwan’s airspace and waters. These actions align with China’s broader geopolitical objectives aimed at asserting influence over Taiwan.
Taiwan remains on high alert, strengthening its defense capabilities in reaction to China’s growing assertiveness. The situation continues to evolve, with both sides maintaining heightened vigilance.
