Chennai, December 9, 2024 — A controversial scene from the Tamil film Amaran has sparked a legal dispute after a Chennai-based engineering student, VV Vaageesan, filed a lawsuit demanding ₹1.1 crore in compensation. The scene, released during the Deepavali season, unintentionally featured Vaageesan’s personal phone number in a sequence where the heroine, played by Sai Pallavi, throws a piece of paper with her number to the hero. Since the film’s release, Vaageesan has been overwhelmed with continuous calls from fans who mistakenly believed his number belonged to the film’s character.
Vaageesan claims that the incessant calls have severely impacted his daily life, affecting his studies, sleep, and access to essential services. Despite his efforts to reach out to the film’s director and lead actor on social media for a resolution, he received no response. As a result, he has approached the Madras High Court, seeking compensation for the distress caused by this privacy violation.
In response to the controversy, Amaran has removed the offending scene from all streaming platforms, including Netflix. This move follows widespread attention to the incident, highlighting concerns about privacy violations in media.
