New Delhi, March 28, 2025 — CBSE has announced that students who do not attend regular school will be barred from taking Class 12 board exams, aiming to curb the rise of ‘dummy schools.’ The board is considering amendments to its examination bye-laws and directing such students to take exams through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). Strict action will be taken against schools promoting non-attendance, with the policy set to take effect from the 2025-2026 academic session.
A minimum of 75% attendance is required for board exam eligibility, with a 25% relaxation allowed only for valid reasons like medical emergencies or national-level sports participation. Surprise inspections will be conducted, and students found missing from school may be disqualified. CBSE is also working with NIOS to establish guidelines for affected students.
