CBSE Introduces AI and Coding as Core Subjects; 8 Lakh Students Sign Up

New Delhi, December 9, 2024 — In the 2024-25 academic session, over 8 lakh students under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have enrolled in courses related to Artificial Intelligence (AI). This substantial rise in enrollment reflects the growing interest and importance of AI in India’s educational landscape. The inclusion of AI and coding as core subjects is part of CBSE’s initiative to integrate skill development into the curriculum for Classes 6-8.

The curriculum now covers subjects such as coding, data science, augmented reality, and satellite applications, making it easier for students to engage with cutting-edge technology. This shift aligns with the National Education Policy’s emphasis on skill education and vocational training. With Microsoft expected to play a key role in shaping the coding syllabus, students will have access to practical, hands-on learning experiences to better equip them for future careers in technology.

This move not only aims to enhance the overall educational experience but also ensures that students are exposed to emerging technologies early in their academic journey. The growing popularity of AI courses among students is a significant step toward India’s goal of becoming a global leader in tech innovation and workforce readiness.
