Repeal of GO 117 in School Education in AP: The government has decided to repeal GO-117, which caused disruption in school education during the YSRCP regime, starting from the next academic year (2025-26). GO-117, which was introduced to implement measures like the merging of classes, adjustment of teachers, 42 teaching periods per week for teachers, and one teacher for every 20 students at the primary level, had led to significant issues in school education.
During the last elections, the NDA coalition promised to repeal GO-117. In this context, discussions were held by Director Vijayarama Raju with leaders of teachers’ associations to determine the necessary actions for its repeal starting from the next academic year. The discussions particularly focused on the challenges that students and teachers would face if the merger of classes 3, 4, and 5, implemented during Jagan’s government, is reversed. It was also decided to take into consideration the opinions of parents during this process.
Director Vijayarama Raju revealed that a model primary school is planned to be established in every major panchayat. He mentioned that efforts will be made to simplify apps as much as possible to ensure that students do not face any difficulties. He also commented that an awards day for the best teachers in the state will be held on the 11th of next month, and a mega meeting for teachers and students’ parents will take place on the 14th. Vijayarama Raju stated that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, along with ministers, MLAs, and other public representatives, will be present at this meeting.
Discussion on Promotions and Transfers Next Week: Vijayarama Raju mentioned that discussions will be held with teachers’ associations on specific topics every Friday for the next two months. He stated that the opinions of teachers will be gathered during these meetings. It has been decided to discuss issues such as promotions and transfers next week. Leaders of the teachers’ associations requested a revision of the six-day residential training program that has been planned for teachers.
The leaders urged Director Vijayarama Raju that teachers should not have teaching duties exceeding 32 periods per week. They requested the implementation of Orders 29, 42, and 53 introduced by the TDP government in 2017. They emphasized that subject teachers should teach in primary schools regardless of student numbers. Additionally, they requested the implementation of both English medium and Telugu medium education. The AP Primary Teachers Association suggested that if the number of students in a primary school exceeds 20, two SGTs (Secondary Grade Teachers) should be provided.
