Cabinet Approves ₹1,878 Crore Zirakpur Bypass to Alleviate Congestion in Punjab and Haryana

`New Delhi, April 9, 2025: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of a 19.2 km six-lane access-controlled bypass around Zirakpur in Punjab and Haryana. Estimated at ₹1,878.31 crore, the project aims to ease congestion in Zirakpur and Panchkula by diverting traffic from major routes like Patiala, Delhi, and Mohali Aerocity, and will offer direct connectivity to Himachal Pradesh.

This project is part of a broader plan to develop a ring road network around Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Mohali to reduce urban congestion. The bypass will connect NH-7 (Zirakpur-Patiala) in Zirakpur and NH-5 (Zirakpur-Parwanoo) in Panchkula, avoiding heavily trafficked urban areas in both regions.
