Rajya Sabha By-Election Schedule: By-elections for Rajya Sabha seats have been announced for four states, including Andhra Pradesh. Three Rajya Sabha seats in Andhra Pradesh are set to undergo by-elections due to the resignations of Mopidevi Venkataramana, Beeda Mastan Rao, and R. Krishnaiah. The Election Commission (EC) has recently released the schedule for by-elections to fill these vacancies in a total of four states.
By-elections for Rajya Sabha seats will be held in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, and Haryana. The Election Commission has scheduled the notification for the by-elections to be issued on December 3. The deadline for filing nominations is set for December 10. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on December 11, and the last date for the withdrawal of nominations is December 13. Voting will be held on December 20 from 9 AM to 4 PM, and the votes will be counted on the same day.
Mopidevi Venkataramana and Beeda Mastan Rao: After losing their positions in the YSR Congress Party, Rajya Sabha MPs Mopidevi Venkataramana and Beeda Mastan Rao resigned due to dissatisfaction with the ongoing developments in the party. Their resignations were accepted by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on August 29. Subsequently, both joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
Krishnaiah Resignation: Along with them, R. Krishnaiah, who was also elected to the Rajya Sabha from the same party, resigned from his position. He submitted his resignation letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on September 23, which was accepted and announced on September 24. Krishnaiah resigned despite having four more years left in his term, citing obstacles in strengthening the BC movement in Telangana as the reason for his resignation. With their resignations, the by-election schedules for these vacant seats, along with several others in different states, have been released.
