New Delhi, April 21, 2025: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has drawn controversy by calling former Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi a “Muslim commissioner” after Quraishi criticized the Waqf (Amendment) Act, accusing the government of using it to seize Muslim lands. This statement follows Dubey’s previous attack on the Supreme Court and Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, which led the BJP to distance itself from his comments.
Dubey also alleged that, under Quraishi’s tenure, a significant number of Bangladeshi infiltrators were registered as voters in Jharkhand’s Santhal Pargana. He argued that land tied to Waqf was originally owned by Hindus, tribals, Jains, or Buddhists before the arrival of Islam in 712 and emphasized that India’s unity should remain intact, with no more partitions.
