TIRUPATI: The BJP has strengthened its base at the grassroots level by enrolling 21.5 lakh new members as part of an extensive statewide campaign, which commenced on September 2. The party aims to bolster its presence in the state by enrolling 25 lakh members by November 1. The membership drive is part of a broader strategy to expand the party’s reach and influence in the region.
The BJP’s membership drive follows a successful campaign last year, which saw the enrollment of 28 lakh members, including those from a missed call initiative. This year, the party has completed 18.5 lakh online enrollments and 3 lakh offline enrollments so far. Party leaders have claimed that they have reached nearly 50% of their target at the booth level across the state, reflecting a positive response to the drive.
To ensure the success of the enrollment drive, the BJP conducted workshops and trained grassroots office-bearers in the process. Following the completion of the membership drive, the party also plans to hold organizational elections, beginning at the mandal level. These efforts are aimed at solidifying the party’s structure and preparing for future elections.
The BJP’s recent performance in the general elections has demonstrated its growing influence in the state. Through seat-sharing arrangements with coalition partners Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena Party (JSP), the BJP won three Lok Sabha seats and increased its success in the Assembly by winning eight out of the 10 contested seats. The party’s vote share has risen from 0.8% in 2019 to over 3.5% in the latest elections, indicating a strengthening foothold in the state. As the TDP prepares to launch its membership drive, BJP leaders are focusing on urban centers like Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, and Rajahmundry to further expand their support base.
