Dubai, December 12: The ongoing standoff between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy hosting model is set to have significant implications for the tournament. One potential resolution is the adoption of a “hybrid” model, where matches between India and Pakistan would be played at neutral venues like the UAE, addressing security and logistical concerns. This proposal is under discussion, with the ICC and PCB moving closer to agreement following talks between ICC Chair Jay Shah and PCB Chair Mohsin Naqvi in Dubai.
Under this model, matches would be held in both India and Pakistan, but key games, particularly those involving India, would be moved to neutral locations to ensure fairness. India’s concerns over travel to Pakistan have been central to these discussions. However, the PCB’s suggestion for a tri-series involving India and a third nation has not been accepted, complicating the negotiations.
While the hybrid model could bring a resolution, the situation remains uncertain. If no agreement is reached, the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy may face cancellation, marking a significant shift in international cricket tournaments.
