Bagda Calls for Global Action Against Hindu Persecution in Bangladesh

New Delhi, November 26, 2024: Shri Bajrang Lal Bagda, the International General Secretary of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), voiced strong concern over the recent arrest of the head priest of the ISKCON temple in Bangladesh. Bagda condemned the arrest as an act of cowardice and a direct attack on democratic principles. He stated that the VHP opposes such undemocratic and authoritarian actions, emphasizing that organizations like ISKCON and other Hindu groups have always expressed their opposition to persecution through peaceful, democratic means, without resorting to violence.

Bagda said, “The arrest of peaceful Hindu leaders, particularly those who are speaking out in a non-violent manner, is an attempt to silence their voices and suppress their fundamental rights. This is not only undemocratic but also a violation of human rights.” He highlighted that these actions are part of a broader pattern of oppression in Bangladesh, where left-wing and Islamic elements are allegedly collaborating to target the Hindu community.

The VHP leader also criticized the global community and international organizations for failing to take appropriate action. “Unfortunately, the international community has not paid the necessary attention or imposed sanctions on the Bangladeshi government’s actions. We urge the world to step up, observe the gravity of the situation, and pressure the Bangladeshi authorities to protect the rights of Hindus,” he added.

Bagda also pointed out that the Indian government’s response to the ongoing crisis has been cautious. While respecting Bangladesh’s sovereignty, he criticized the silence of both the Indian government and neighboring countries regarding the persecution of Hindus. “Such inaction cannot continue for long. It is unacceptable,” he stated.

The Vishva Hindu Parishad has demanded the immediate release of the ISKCON priest, Shri Chinmayananda Krishna Das, and called on the Bangladeshi government to refrain from arresting Hindu leaders, religious figures, or priests without just cause. The organization urged the global community to intervene and halt the ongoing suppression of Hindus in Bangladesh.
