Amaravati, March 5, 2025: Andhra Pradesh Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu stated that YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has moved the High Court, seeking recognition as the Leader of the Opposition. Jagan’s petition named the Speaker and the Legislative Affairs Minister as respondents. Ayyanna acknowledged reports of High Court summons but said the petition’s legal validity was yet to be determined.
The Speaker accused Jagan of misleading the public and clarified that a party needs at least 18 MLAs in the 175-member Assembly for Opposition Leader status. He urged absent YSRCP MLAs to attend sessions, while TDP leaders Nara Lokesh, Nadendla Manohar, and Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdary sought an Assembly committee review of the issue.
