    Assam Cracks Down on Drug Trade: 8 Bighas of Poppy Cultivation Destroyed

    Guwahati, February 19, 2025: Security forces in Assam have destroyed eight bighas of illegal poppy cultivation as part of the state’s ongoing anti-narcotics drive. The operation, conducted jointly by Assam Police and other enforcement agencies, aims to curb drug production and trafficking. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the security forces for their efforts and reiterated the government’s commitment to making Assam drug-free.

    The crackdown is part of an intensified campaign against narcotics, which has led to the eradication of several illicit poppy farms in recent months. Officials assured that strict surveillance and enforcement measures will continue to eliminate such activities. CM Sarma stressed Assam’s zero-tolerance approach toward drug-related crimes and called for public support in the fight against narcotics.
