Assam CM Sarma Alleges Congress Leader Gaurav Gogoi’s Ties with Pakistan, SIT Probe Ordered

Guwahati, May 28, 2025 – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has accused Congress MP and Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi and his wife, Elizabeth Colburn, of having close ties with Pakistan’s establishment. Sarma alleged that Gogoi visited Pakistan on the invitation of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and claimed that Colburn, a British national, was receiving a salary from a Pakistan-based NGO. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate these claims, with findings expected to be revealed on September 10, 2025.

In response, Gaurav Gogoi strongly denied the allegations, calling them baseless and comparing the accusations to a “C-grade Bollywood movie” destined to fail. He admitted to visiting Pakistan once in 2013 to accompany his wife on a climate change project and questioned why the central government, aware of his visit, never raised any concerns before. Gogoi challenged CM Sarma to present any concrete evidence immediately rather than postponing the disclosure.
