AP High Court Reprimands Authorities for Failing to Enforce Ban on Cockfights

Visakhapatnam, January 8, 2025: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has directed the police to prevent cockfights and animal cruelty during Sankranti celebrations. Justice BVLN Chakravarthy issued interim orders following petitions by G. Venkataratnam and others, seeking a ban on cockfights, gambling, and illegal alcohol sales in the Godavari districts. The petitioners argued that authorities had failed to enforce previous court orders.

During the hearing, advocates KV Srinivas Rao and Dasari Prasad presented the petitioners’ case, highlighting the lack of action by officials in stopping these illegal activities. Justice Chakravarthy instructed the police to follow previous court orders. The hearing was adjourned to the first week of February for further proceedings.
