AP High Court Rejects Request to Quash Rape Case Against Ex-Minister Nagarjuna

Key Development in AP High Court Regarding YCP Ex-Minister Merugu Nagarjuna’s Petition: A significant turn took place in the rape case filed against former YCP Minister Merugu Nagarjuna in the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The victim personally appeared in court and submitted an affidavit stating that she had filed a false complaint against Nagarjuna. She further stated that she had no objection if the case registered by the police against him was quashed.

Justice V. R. K. Kripasagar, responding to the petition, said that the court could not quash the rape case simply because the complainant requested it. He also warned that if it was determined that the complaint was false, the complainant would have to face consequences.

False Complaint Consequences: On the other hand, the judge noted that it was not possible to close cases just because the accused were public representatives. He emphasized that the police must follow legal procedures when deciding whether to close cases. The court also pointed out that it had often seen situations where complainants asked for cases to be quashed after initially filing them. The judge made it clear that individuals who filed false complaints would also face consequences.

Investigation Report Ordered: The court ordered the police to submit a detailed report on the investigation and the case diary. The investigation was postponed to the 12th of this month. Merugu Nagarjuna’s lawyer, Dushyant Reddy, requested interim relief from arrest until the next hearing, but the judge rejected this plea.

The Allegations: A woman from Vijayawada had filed a complaint with the Tadipalli police in Guntur district, accusing Merugu Nagarjuna of taking money from her under the pretext of securing contract work or a job, and physically assaulting her. Following this, the police registered a rape case against Nagarjuna.

Affidavit Seeking Case Withdrawal: On November 5th, Merugu Nagarjuna and his PA V. Murali Mohan Reddy filed a petition in the High Court requesting that the case against them be quashed. The victim, who appeared in court, submitted an affidavit stating that she had filed a false complaint and had no objection to the case being dismissed.
