AP HC Orders Government to Explain CCTV Installation Discrepancy in Police Stations and Jails

Amaravati, February 18: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has instructed the state government to submit a report on the functionality of CCTV cameras in police stations. Out of 1,392 stations, only 1,001 have cameras installed, and the court has sought an explanation for this gap. It also noted that only 788 out of 1,226 cameras in 81 jails are operational and requested details on repairs.

The court has asked Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to file affidavits with information on CCTV installations, video storage, and malfunction reporting. It also called for the involvement of a senior IT official in the report submissions. The next hearing is set for March 10.
