Tirupati, January 9, 2025: The Andhra Pradesh government has expressed deep grief over the tragic stampede at Tirupati during the Vaikuntha Ekadashi token distribution, which claimed six lives and injured several others. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu criticized the failure of precautionary measures and expressed anguish over the loss of lives. He is set to visit Tirupati today to meet the injured and review the situation. Acting on his orders, Home Minister Anitha, Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, and Minister Anagani Satya Prasad have rushed to Tirupati.
In a review meeting with officials, including the DGP and TTD EO, the CM questioned the inadequate arrangements despite anticipating a large crowd. He directed officials to provide the best medical care to the injured and ensure such lapses are not repeated. Naidu also ordered a thorough review of token distribution counters and security measures to prevent future tragedies.
