Vijayawada, January 30, 2025: The Andhra Pradesh government has approved land acquisition for the Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam Metro Rail projects, requiring 199 acres—101 acres in Vijayawada and 98 acres in Visakhapatnam. The first phase of the projects, estimated at ₹11,009 crore, received Cabinet approval in December 2024, and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) have been submitted to the central government for funding. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has requested 100% central funding while directing officials to initiate land acquisition.
The Visakhapatnam Metro Rail’s first phase will cover 46 km across three corridors at an estimated cost of ₹11,498 crore, while Vijayawada Metro’s first phase will span 38.4 km over two corridors, costing ₹11,009 crore. The state government will spend ₹1,152 crore for land acquisition in Vijayawada. The second phases of both projects include extensions to Bhogapuram in Visakhapatnam and Amaravati in Vijayawada.
