Andhra Pradesh Raises Alert After 10-Year-Old’s Death from Guillain-Barré Syndrome

Vijayawada, February 13 – Andhra Pradesh has raised alert levels after 10-year-old Vatada Yuvatha from Srikakulam district died from Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). Initially treated for throat pain and fever, he was diagnosed with GBS and passed away after being transferred to James Hospital in Ragolu. District authorities have launched a door-to-door survey and increased health surveillance in response.

GBS, a rare condition in children, is difficult to detect early as it progresses rapidly. However, Srikakulam District Collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar reassured that it is not contagious or an epidemic. The state health department is focusing on raising awareness about the symptoms. Yuvatha’s parents donated his organs, and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed condolences and praised their strength.
