Andhra Pradesh on High Alert as Depression Set to Bring Torrential Rains

Amaravati, December 21, 2024: The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for Andhra Pradesh, forecasting significant rainfall over the next two days. This warning comes as a depression, formed in the Bay of Bengal, is expected to impact the state. According to the latest forecast, heavy rainfall is likely across several districts, particularly in the Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra regions.

The depression, which is currently near the Visakhapatnam coast, is expected to intensify, bringing heavy to very heavy rains. Officials have urged residents in affected areas, including districts like Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Nellore, and Chittoor, to remain cautious and prepared for the downpour.

The government has activated emergency teams and is taking precautionary measures to minimize disruption. Authorities have advised people to avoid traveling in low-lying areas and riverbanks, as the rains could lead to flash floods in some regions. The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates are expected as the storm system evolves.
