Andhra Pradesh Considers Removing First-Year Public Exams to Ease Student Pressure

Amaravati, January 8, 2025: The Intermediate Education Board is considering the removal of first-year public exams starting from the next academic year to reduce student pressure. Only the second-year public exam will be held based on that year’s syllabus. The board has proposed four key reforms, including changes to the syllabus, textbooks, subject combinations, and marking system. Students, parents, and educators have been invited to submit feedback by January 26, 2025.

There have been no major syllabus revisions in recent years, with updates made to science, arts, and language subjects in 2012, 2014, and 2018, respectively. The board plans to align with the National Curriculum Framework-2023, introducing NCERT textbooks in the first year of intermediate education from 2025-26, following their introduction in Class 10 this year. The changes aim to help students prepare for competitive exams like NEET and JEE.
