New Delhi, January 10, 2025: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a regional conference on “Drug Trafficking and National Security” in New Delhi on January 11. Organized by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the conference will address the growing issue of drug trafficking in northern India and its impact on national security. During the event, Shah will launch the Drug Disposal Fortnight, inaugurate the NCB’s Bhopal zonal unit office, and extend the MANAS-2 helpline across all states and Union Territories. Key discussions will focus on sharing real-time data from the MANAS portal, evaluating progress in anti-drug efforts, and enhancing coordination between various agencies.
The government has adopted a ‘Zero Tolerance Policy’ against drug trafficking, aiming for a drug-free India by 2047 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. A three-pronged strategy is being implemented to strengthen institutional frameworks, improve coordination, and raise public awareness. The conference will be attended by state leaders, law enforcement officials, and representatives from various ministries, aiming to further the government’s anti-drug agenda.
