Chandigarh, December 3, 2024 — Union Home Minister Amit Shah has congratulated Chandigarh for becoming the first city in India to fully implement the country’s new criminal laws. These reforms, which include the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), replace colonial-era legislation with modern, citizen-centric laws.
In his remarks, Amit Shah emphasized that this milestone marks a significant step in India’s judicial reform. He highlighted that the full implementation of these laws in Chandigarh demonstrates the city’s commitment to advancing justice through technology and efficiency. The new laws incorporate innovative features such as electronic FIR registration, provisions for mob lynching, and streamlined processes for international fugitives, ensuring quicker justice delivery.
The Home Minister also noted that Chandigarh’s achievement sets a precedent for other regions, with plans to extend similar reforms across the nation. The Modi government’s efforts in this direction aim to make India’s criminal justice system one of the most modern and technologically advanced globally.
