Amaravati Construction Works Updates: The CRDA has focused on completing pending works in the apartment towers being constructed for MLAs, MLCs, and All India Services (AIS) officials in the capital Amaravati. In this regard, an estimated budget of ₹524.70 crores has been prepared, and CRDA has received approval to call for new tenders. Eighteen towers with 12 floors (S+12) are being constructed adjacent to the Seed Access Road in the capital city administration, with a total of 432 apartment units (flats) being prepared. The coalition government aims to make the towers available within nine months of awarding the contracts for the tenders. So far, the CRDA has spent ₹444.05 crores on these towers.
YSRCP’s Mismanagement – An Additional Expense of ₹268 Crores: The YSRCP government halted the work on Amaravati out of vendetta. After a five-year hiatus, the costs are significantly increasing to resume and complete the projects. The construction of the 18 towers began in 2017 with an estimated budget of ₹700 crores. By the time the YSRCP came to power in 2019, the civil structures for the 18 towers were nearly complete.
Between 2014 and 2019, the CRDA spent ₹395.65 crores on their construction. Primarily, the remaining works include the construction of facilities such as a clubhouse, water sump, podium, architectural finishing works like flooring and false ceilings, plumbing, electrical work, roads, drainage systems, electrical substations, transformers, and the installation of chiller units. It is reported that ₹80.38 crores were spent on these works during the YSRCP government’s tenure.
To show that the work was ongoing to HUDCO, which provided loans for the project, the government undertook some minimal works. However, not a single tower has been made available yet. The CRDA estimates that the total cost for the completion of all works, including taxes, will amount to ₹524.70 crores. This means that with the already spent ₹444.05 crores, the total will reach ₹968.75 crores. The halt in works by the YSRCP government has led to an additional expenditure of approximately ₹268 crores for the construction of the 18 towers.
